Award Winning Plein Air Painter

Inspired by the genre of my southern heritage, and by my old friends, Rembrandt, Monet, and Sargent, with whom I became acquainted at an early age, I paint on location and from life. Painting celebrates my God-given coexistence with man and nature.

Growing up the daughter of a legacy of Alabama teachers, preachers and farmers, there was little money for entertainment outside the home. As a child, I spent countless hours porring over art history books, and drawing family members and farm scenes. At age 13, I began my journey with paint and canvas, and today my journey continues.

Painting from life involves spontaneous, astute use of color, and sure, but loose brushwork. I find that this way of painting is the most challenging and exciting, allowing me to work directly with paint on virgin canvas. As I work with my subject laid out before me, I feel an emotional connection. This intimacy with the subject is what I wish to convey to the viewer.
